Raw Images not displaying in Photos app since NC Server 31.0.8 through 32.0.0

Describe the bug
Since 31.0.8 and through 32.0.0, Raw images, in particular x-dcraw, aren’t being displayed in the photos app.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Upload a raw image
2. Click verify preview with “camerarawpreviews” is generated in files app
3. Click on Photos
4. No raw images display

Expected behavior
Prior to 31.0.8, Raw images displayed in Photos app.

No screenshots, raw images don’t display. I’ve updated camerarawpreviews to the latest pull request, so raw images display previews in Files, Viewer app registers x-dcraw mimes, but photos isn’t loading any of them. See notes here:

Yes, technically it would be possible to just add it, but an even better solution would be to provide a function in the Photos app that allows external apps to register additional supported formats.

Right now, most photo-related apps (including Memories) tend to follow the principle of “if it’s commonly used, we’ll include it.” Since not everyone is using the camerarawpreviews app, I have to disappoint you here: it won’t get in just because of that.

For example, one app (Memories) previously said they would probably never add AVIF, chicken-and-egg problem, I guess. Even my PR to Nextcloud hasn’t been reviewed yet, which is why I’m now try to make this as a separate app.

So the only sustainable approach would be for these apps to allow external apps to register new formats as supported. Otherwise, you’ll face the same issue with DNG.

What I mean is: many photo apps don’t even support WebP yet, even though that’s the format of all my screenshots. I don’t think DNG has a realistic chance of being supported the “traditional” way.

I did a bit of testing on this, and managed to make DNG work. I did add the image/x-dcraw to the Application.php, but even then it wasn’t working. Eventually I did add bunch of break points in Firefox debug mode and narrowed down the segment that was loading the images, but nothing seemed to indicate a bug, in particular when the JavaScript PhotoSearch and FetchFilesMixin loads from the folders. I got tired of scrolling to older DNG images to test this, so I loaded a new one and it just worked like it should. I ended up re-uploading all ~200gb of photos and it’s working. Seems to me this would be a database update possibly, in this case. There were no errors in the JS in Firefox debug, so it seems like the DB didn’t migrate to whatever the new standards are. Unfortunately I didn’t dig through the DB enough to verify this, as I ended up deleting a bunch of rows and scanning again to try and rebuild it, but only uploading the files again with both the iOS client and the Photos app.

Deleting oc_filecache rows associated with “files/Photos/“ and running “occ files:scan” again did work with the web app, but not iOS client. I wish I could narrow it in more, but this was as far as I could narrow it down before I got it working again.

I do have a backup of an old MariaDB instance if someone needs some rows from old and current DB, however.
