GitHub's current policy of forcing users residing in Turkey to rely exclusively on third-party applications for two-factor authentication (2FA) is unacceptable.

It is deeply frustrating and disappointing not to find my own country, Turkey, listed among the options for SMS verification. This restriction significantly hinders the user experience and accessibility for Turkish users.

I strongly urge you to put an immediate end to this irrational restriction and promptly enable the SMS verification option for users in Turkey. This oversight should not be occurring.

For more information on configuring 2FA with a TOTP app, here is the documentation. Also, after setting up your 2FA, download your recovery codes and store them in a secure location.

Thank you for your kind welcome, congratulations on your first post, and your prompt reply.

However, the solution you mentioned (2FA with TOTP applications) is already the only option available to users in Turkey, and my main objection is precisely this requirement.

While SMS verification is an active option for dozens of countries, Turkey's absence from this list forces us users to resort to third-party verification applications.

My request is not for a reference to the existing ‘how-to’ documentation, but for clarification on why this restriction is in place. Is this due to a legal requirement, a technical obstacle, or some other reason? Unfortunately, my research has not yielded any clear information on this matter.

Like users in other countries, we, as users in Turkey, request that the SMS verification option, which is a more standard and accessible method, be activated for our country as soon as possible, rather than remaining dependent on third-party applications.
