Github Education Application Denied

Hi everyone,

I'm having problems with my Github Edu application. I tried applying for it but my application got rejected within half an hour telling me to do the following:

Let's go over the different options here,
Add billing information: I could possibly do
Add a document with the school's name: I don't have access to such documents since I am a student (I only have access to digital student card, which doesn't include the schools name)
Update profile with my full name: I don't want to publicly display my real name

Additionally some of the people I know had to do none of this to get student access.

Hi @Dontknow09,

As of now, to apply for the Student Developer Pack you must:

• Be enrolled in a degree- or diploma-granting program, such as a high school, college, university, or homeschool.

• Have a verifiable school-issued email or documents proving your student status.

• Submit a dated academic transcript (one of the following options):

  • A picture of your school ID with current enrollment date
  • Your class schedule
  • Your transcript
  • An affiliation or enrollment verification letter

• Fill in your billing information (just add your name and school address, no payment details required) and your GitHub profile with your full name exactly as it appears on your academic transcript.

Hi again @davevad93,

Here's what I have currently out of the things you said:
I am enrolled in high-school (or atleast the swedish equivalent): ✅
I have a school issued email (that also got automatically recognized to a school which is the same as I go to but might not be the right city): ✅
I sent them a photo of my student ID that had an enrollment date and expiry date: ✅

and your GitHub profile with your full name exactly as it appears on your academic transcript.

I, as well as many others, actually care about my privacy online which means I don't want random people on the internet to know my name. If the display name (see the picture) is what you mean by "GitHub profile" then yeah I'm not doing that. Also other people that have applied have not had to change their display names.

Hey @Dontknow09, I completely understand your concerns about privacy and I agree with you. Unfortunately, during the application process, it's required to add your full name to your profile. Once approved, it can be removed without any problem. I don't know how your acquaintances were able to apply without adding their full name on GitHub, as this has been a mandatory requirement since at least two years.

If you want, contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your problem.

Additionaly, if you finally decide to add it, log out and log back into GitHub before reapplying, as for some reason the application system gets stuck in a loop even after the required information has been updated.
