First and foremost, we want to sincerely apologize for the recent 502 Bad Gateway errors that many of you have encountered after rebooting or updating your Olares devices. This was caused by the unexpected expiration of a built-in service (Authelia) certificate, and we understand the frustration and disruption this has caused.
Our team has prepared this guide for an immediate fix. We are also actively working on improving certificate monitoring and automated renewal processes to prevent this from happening in the future. We are committed to the stability of the Olares platform and thank you for your patience and understanding.
The following guide explains how to quickly fix this issue by manually updating the Authelia certificate.
Scenario 1: If Your Olares Is Still Running
If your Olares system is currently running and you can still access the Control Hub, please follow the steps below to manually update the certificate:
Open the Control Hub application on your Olares desktop.
Open the Olares Terminal at the bottom of the left navigation bar.
In the terminal window, enter the certificate update command below, and then press Enter.
After the command executes successfully, you will see a Configuration updated successfully message. Wait for about 5 minutes for the service update to complete, and you should then be able to access your Olares normally.
Scenario 2: If Your Olares Has Been Rebooted/Updated
If your Olares system has already been rebooted or updated and you are now seeing a 502 error, please follow the steps below to fix it by logging into the Olares system backend via SSH.
Step 1: Get the Olares device's internal IP address
Before you begin, please ensure:
Your Olares device is powered on.
Your mobile phone is connected to the same local Wi-Fi network as your Olares.
The LarePass app on your phone is switched to the account associated with your Olares device.
Then, follow these steps:
Open the LarePass app on your phone.
On the Settings page, tap your Olares account to enter the Device Management screen.
Tap the device card at the top to go to the Device Information page. In the Network section, you will see the current internal IP address of the Olares device (e.g., 192.168.31.82). Please note this address.
Step 2: Log in to Olares via SSH
You will need a computer on the same network as your Olares to perform this action.
On Windows:
Press the Win + S keys to open the search bar.
Type cmd and click on "Command Prompt" to open it.
On macOS:
Open the Terminal application directly from Launchpad or Spotlight Search.
Now, in the command prompt or terminal window you've opened:
Enter the SSH command below, replacing the IP address with the one you noted in Step 1, and press Enter.
On your first login, a host key verification prompt will appear. Type yes and press Enter.
This key is not known by any other names.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])? yes
The system will prompt you for a password. Please enter the default Olares password, olares, and press Enter.
Note: The password is the same as the username. No characters will be displayed as you type; this is a standard security feature.
Upon successful login, you will see the Olares system's command prompt (e.g., olares@olares:~$).
Note: If the SSH connection fails, please confirm that your computer is on the same network as the Olares and that you are not using the Olares's public IP address. If both are confirmed to be correct, please contact the Olares team.
Step 3: Execute the Certificate Update Command
Now that you are logged into the system backend, enter the exact certificate update command below in the current terminal window, and then press Enter.
After the command executes successfully, you will see a Configuration updated successfully message. Wait for about 5 minutes for the service update to complete, and you should then be able to access your Olares normally.
