Description

After upgrading to version 0.99.4 or 0.99.5 from an earlier version (e.g., 0.99.3), assigning a custom global shortcut (like Alt+W) to the "Toggle System Tray Icon" action causes its "show window" functionality to break.

The shortcut works correctly for hiding the window to the system tray but fails to show the window when triggered again from the trayed state.

There was a recent change to how global shortcuts interact with window visibility and the system tray in TriliumNext v0.99.4+. The update (see PR #7645) introduced a new function to better handle showing and focusing the window when a global shortcut is triggered, especially from the tray. This was meant to fix cases where shortcuts didn't work at all from the tray, but it may have introduced a regression affecting the "Toggle System Tray Icon" action—specifically, the shortcut hides the window but doesn't restore it when triggered again.

No existing tickets or documentation directly address this specific regression. The issue likely stems from the recent changes in how the window is restored and focused when using global shortcuts. If you need a workaround, you might try using the default tray icon click to restore the window, or experiment with different shortcut assignments to see if the behavior changes.

Here is how various global shortcuts work when the app is minimized to tray:

0.99.3:

• restore from tray shortcut: works
• create new note (global:Ctrl+Alt+P): does not work (new notes appears in the inbox, but user don't know about this - window still is in tray)
• search (custom global shortcut): does not work (always opens in the first window, even you pressed it in second window)

0.99.4:

• restore from tray shortcut: does not work (there is brief flash of the window attempting to restore, but that's it)
• create new note (global:Ctrl+Alt+P): works
• search (custom global shortcut): works (opens in active window or restores last active window from tray)

The difference is made by commit 051e2b4
